PROJECT

The composition of Gyumri MEMORIAL COMPLEX dedicated to the victims of 1988 disastrous earthquake consists of three underlined elements:
  • pedestal
  • memorial column
  • exhibition hall
The pedestal is presented as a big "decorated stone" with 42 x 102m external size, which is the symbol of the permanent value of the civilization. It is cracked in longitudinal direction. The right part from the crack is mutilated and irregularly changed.

The pedestal itself is an underground structure, where the exhibition hall, chamber and administrative services are situated.

The centre of the pedestal has a three-leaf bouquet form, which descends in stair form to bottom - 4.5mark. In this mark it's a vast platform, which will serve as a threshold of the exhibition hall and also for the outcome of the whole movement of ritual procession. It is connected with the external area with pedestrian bent passages (panduses) extending in longitudinal direction. The stable part of the pedestal is made with iron concrete constructions. The complex is outwardly faced with white travertine tiles.

The memorial column is the vertical emphasis of the composition, which is the belief-philosophical symbol of "Holy Trinity" and at the same serves as a movement guide of procession, and as a final point of the ritual outcome. It is 50 metre high, of iron concrete and also faced with travertine tiles.

The exhibition hall is installed in the right part of the pedestal beneath its mutilated part. In the plan it has rectangular form and is connected with the chamber by an auxiliary building of common use. The exhibition hall a flat floor and bent big flight roof, which has an open ritual platform under the eastern wing covered from the left with stage niche, from the right - with main entrance of the exhibition hall, from opposite side with the memorial wall. The ritual platform has also a hung bunch of copper sound extending pipes over its head. The pipes are chosen with the account of different key, and with the influence of air (wind) movement and they cause sound nuances with soft pronunciation.

The area of the park, where the MEMORIAL COMPLEX is set up, has an extended quadrangular form, with the axis directed to west-east. The MEMORIAL COMPLEX is set up in the central part of the park in such way that it would be also emphasized from the direction of the opposite Koshtoyan street. The MEMORIAL COMPLEX is completely sound to the park. The improvement of his western part is adapted for the organization of the ritual procession formation and process, and the eastern part - to the distribution of the procession participants. The MEMORIAL COMPLEX is circled with walkways, between which there are flower-gardens and green lawns. The ending line of the park is a dense tree planting, which isolates the MEMORIAL COMPLEX from the active traffic of the neigbouring street network, and provides inside a peaceful silence. In separate parts of the external line of the park car parking platforms are envisaged.

By the design the night lighting was specially observed, which mainly comes from the bottom of the mutilated tile, and it rightly lights the crater of the centre and only the memorial column rising from it. The lighting of the walkways is mild.
The systems of the engineering furnishing are supplied from city functioning engineering networks.

With all this the MEMORIAL COMPLEX has the following indices:
  • Area of the park - 7.5ha
  • Exhibition hall - 930.0 m2
  • Exhibition hall - 280.0 m2
  • Building of the Staff - 10 x 16.5 =165.0 m2
  • Hall - 260.0 m2
  • Fund Depository - 245.0 m2
  • Auxiliary Areas - 140.0 m2
  • Platform of the Memorial Wall - 970.0 m2
  • Total - 3000.0 m2
Taking the cost of the 1m2 useful squares of the building equivalent to 500 USD, the cost of the building will be 3000 x 500 =1500.0 USD.
The cost of the park improvement was accepted 500.000 USD.
The cost of the two together - 2000.0 USD.
The value added tax (20%) - 400.000 USD.
The total cost of the complex will be 2400.0 USD.
The costs of all kinds of property-equipment necessary for the supply of the MEMORIAL COMPLEX are included in the calculation.
