KALASHYAN SASHUR
RA Honoured Architect

Sashur Kalashyan was born on May 20, 1936 in the city of Leninakan.

In 1953 he entered the Architectural faculty of Yerevan Polytechnic Institute.

In 1959 he finished it and qualified as an architect in direction of the engineering design of urban construction, residential and public buildings.

In 1959-1960 he worked as an architect in Leninakan City Soviet. In 1960-1970 he worked in "ArmStateProject" Institute from architect till Design Chief Architect.

In 1970-1974 he worked in "YerevanProject" Institute as Design Chief Architect.

And in 1974-1976 he worked in "ArmStateProject" as design chief architect.

In 1976-1994 he has been Chief Architect of the city of Gyumri.

In 1994 - 2000 he has been head of "ArmProject" CJSC architectural studio.

From 2000 up to present day he works as a Chief Engineer in "ArmProject" JSC.

In 1985 in the urban development sphere he was honoured with laureate of RA State Prize.

In 1987 he received RA Honoured Architect degree.

In 2005 he received Frityoff Nansen medal. From the first years of the creative work he was involved in the design of residential and public buildings, participated in republican architectural open competitions, where he won different prizes.

In the authors' group he participated in the design of such significant buildings, as the Tsitsernakaberd Great Genocide MEMORIAL COMPLEX, "Zvartnots" airport, Yerevan Sports Palace, in future - the architectural design of Sports Concert Complex.

He has USSR authors' certificate of invention on spectators' halls. While working in Gyumri he was involved in the scientific study of the historical building inset of the city in order to measure and solve the problems of restoration of about 1400 historical-architectural monuments. He led the wide-scale research and organizational works in Gyumri of the establishment of the state historical-architectural preserve museum, as well as the design and construction of about one dozen residential and public buildings and facilities.

In 1987-1988 in the authors' group staff he designed the new chief plan of Gyumri. During the post-earthquake years he continued to be involved in the architectural and urban development designs.

In 1989-1990 he led the detailed planning design of Gyumri historical inset.

In 1990-1991 he led the detailed planning design works of "Narek" residential region chief planning and first micro-region.

In 1994-1995 he led the design works of the Armenian Genocide Museum in the Great Genocide complex.

In 1997-1998 he led the works of the reconstruction chief plan of the city of Shushi.

In 1998-1999 he led the the works of the development of the disaster area 1999-2001 RA State programme.

In 1999-2003 he led the development of the new residential strategic programmes in the disaster area (Within the framework of the researches initiated by the Institute of the city of Washington).

In 2000-2005 he made the outline of the regional planning of RA Shirak marz, as well as the new chief planning of the city of Gyumri and the design of the historical centre zoning. .
