He was born on January 21, 1961 in the city of Leninakan, in the farmers' family.

In 1968-1978 he studied and finished # 6 A. Pushkin secondary school of Leninakan.

In 1983 - 1985 he entered and finished Kirovakan Trade-Economic technical school.

In 1984 he worked in the system of Leninakan trade board as goods specialist.

In 1988 he participated in Artsakh liberation movement, supported the freedomfighters.

During the period of cooperative movement he ran "Spartak" cooperative.

In 1992 he worked three days as First Deputy of Chairman of the Moskovian Regional Council. Not tolerating the work style of the city and region heads refused that post.

In 1988 he entered the "Economics and Management" department of the technological faculty of "Shirak" University.

From November 1999 elected Mayor of Gyumri.

Married, has four children.
